Your data stays with you
Easy Moving is "local-first". In guest mode (no account), every item, photo, box, note and custom room/category lives only in your browser (IndexedDB + localStorage). Nothing is sent to any server.
Only when you create an account (to back up or sync across devices, or to share a move) does data go to Google Firebase. It is stored under your user ID and protected by our security rules.
What information we hold
Account: the email address and (optional) display name you provide to Firebase Authentication.
Inventory: whatever you choose to enter — item names, photos you take or upload, rooms, boxes, dimensions, values, notes, "destination" tags (keep / sell / store / give away), and move profile details (dates, sizes, type).
We do not collect or require government ID, payment details, health data or other sensitive categories.
Service requests and sharing
If you use the post-move "Settle In" offers or similar features and enter name + phone, we store that contact only on your device until you request an offer. Requests are recorded locally. In future, with your explicit consent (checkbox), we may forward the details you provided to the chosen provider so they can contact you. We never sell data or use it for advertising.
When you invite collaborators to view or edit your move, only inventory and move data is visible to them (subject to the viewer/editor role you chose). Photos remain private to the account owner and are not downloaded for collaborators. You control revoking access at any time.
Processors and storage
We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Functions) to provide accounts, sync and photo storage. Image uploads are first compressed on your device; a Cloud Function may re-process them for thumbnails, which remain private to the account owner. Functions run in europe-west1.
Data location & international transfer: your account and inventory data (Firestore) and the Functions run in the EU; your photos (Firebase Storage) are stored in the United States. Where data is processed outside your country, we rely on the data-transfer safeguards provided by Google/Firebase.
Besides Firebase, we use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-friendly, cookieless service that collects only aggregate, anonymous usage (page views and referrers), never tracks you across sites, and never sells data (plausible.io/data-policy). We use no advertising or social pixels.
Cookies and local storage
We place no tracking cookies from third parties. The app and landing use only essential local storage and IndexedDB for functionality (preferences, guest inventory, saved settle-in contact, language). You can clear this at any time via your browser.
Retention
Guest data: stays on your device until you delete it or clear browser data.
Account data: kept until you delete items/boxes in the app or request deletion of your account and data. We do not keep data after you delete it (subject to legal requirements and short backup windows inherent to cloud services).
Security
Access is controlled by Firebase Authentication and Firestore/Storage security rules. Explicit collaborators can access shared inventory data, while Storage permits photo downloads only by the account owner. We do not store public download links. We rely on Firebase's infrastructure security and do not claim any additional certifications.
Your rights
Guest mode: you have complete control — delete or edit anything inside the app, or clear the site data in your browser.
With an account: you can view, edit and delete your items, boxes and profile data directly in the app, export a CSV of your inventory, and leave or revoke shares.
You can permanently delete your account and all its data from the app (Settings, delete account). Short-lived cloud backups may persist briefly before rotating out.
