Printable moving checklist: every task, step by step

Updated

The thing that trips people up in a move isn’t the work — it’s the feeling that something’s been forgotten. An organized checklist solves exactly that: every task in its place, at its time.

This is our complete task list, organized by stage. Print it, stick it on the fridge, and tick ✓ as you go. You can also save it as a PDF and check items off on your phone.

8 weeks out

  • Give written notice to your landlord — check the notice period in the lease
  • Pick a moving date — mid-week and mid-month are cheaper
  • Start comparing moving-company quotes
  • Start an item list, room by room

6–4 weeks out

  • Go room by room: moving, storage, sell, donate, or discard
  • List items for sale — it takes weeks, not days
  • Get three quotes based on the same item list
  • Book the movers — with a written contract and insurance
  • Transfer school or kindergarten registration (if changing cities)

2 weeks out

  • Buy boxes, wrapping paper and packing tape
  • Pack room by room, labeled boxes, up to 20 kg each
  • Arrange internet installation at the new home
  • Confirm electricity, water and gas are live at the new home

Final week

  • Order mail forwarding from Israel Post
  • Empty the freezer
  • Pack a personal bag: IDs, contracts, jewelry, chargers
  • Prepare a "first night" box — bedding, towels, coffee

Moving day

  • Photograph the electricity and water meters — in both apartments
  • Final walkthrough of the empty apartment before handing over the key
  • Confirm every box arrived at the new home
  • Check water, electricity and gas at the new home before unpacking

After the move

  • Update your address on your ID
  • Open an Arnona account in your name — and check for a discount
  • Connect internet and electricity in your name
  • Update your address with the bank, insurers and subscriptions
